ROSNAY ORGANIC

ROSNAY ORGANIC

Rosnay Organic is a pioneering biodynamic farm and winery near the picturesque town of Canowindra. Founded in 1997, the estate is the precise vision of the Statham’s – a family that left the wool industry of northern New South Wales to chase a dream based on authentic living and sustainable produce. Their enthusiasm for horticulture, wine and organic farming spans generations, beginning with family roots in southern France and now thriving with three generations operating the Rosnay property today.

At the heart of Rosnay Organic lies a profound commitment to nurturing living, breathing soil and working in harmony with nature – caring for it as it cares for us. The farm was converted to organic and biodynamic principles early on, allowing the land to regenerate and support a diverse ecosystem. Grapes, olives and figs – ideally suited to the region’s climate – are produced using holistic farming techniques, including sheep grazing, composting and tree planting.

The winery is housed in a sustainably built strawbale structure, powered by a solar microgrid. Since 2012, Rosnay Organic has been a pioneer in the natural winemaking field, releasing its first preservative-free wine under the “Freedom” label. By 2020, all sulphites were eliminated from its winemaking process, and since 2022, all wines have been fermented with wild yeast. The result is a range of authentic, regional wines crafted using a combination of modern cooling systems and ancient amphorae, sporting the true taste of the region in which it was grown.

Beyond wine, Rosnay Organic produces organic olive oil and hand-fermented kalamata olives, as well as dried and preserved figs from eight different varieties, including the prized White Adriatic. Visitors can explore the farm through tours and tastings hosted by the Statham family, enjoy camping or farm stay experiences, and engage with the local arts through exhibitions and events. As part of the Rivers Road Organic Farms community, Rosnay Organic continues to grow as a vibrant, innovative and deeply connected family venture.

Tasting Notes

Rosnay
⇐ Beau Joli

Inspired by the family’s ongoing tradition of “Vin de Garage” or “Garage Wine” in provincial France, this shiraz-dominant, tangy light red blend is wild-yeast fermented using carbonic maceration. The name ‘Beau Joli’ is a cheeky tribute to its inspiration – Beaujolais Nouveau.

Rosnay
⇐ Fig and Honey Liqueur

Amongst the vineyards at Rosnay are over a hundred fig trees. Their amber coloured juice is preserved with estate-distilled grape spirit – the ancient technique of “mutage”. A small addition of natural bush honey completes this delicious after-dinner liqueur.

Rosnay
⇐ Sparkling Rose

Since it was first made in 2009, this has become Rosnay’s flagship bubbly. It is made from 100% organic estate-grown shiraz grapes, picked early for crisp flavours of watermelon, blood orange and strawberry. It is fermented under pressure for fine natural bubbles.

Rosnay
⇐ Vermentino

This famous Mediterranean white found a home at Rosnay in 2014. Ideally suited to natural wild yeast fermentation, malolactic fermentation, maturation in amphorae and bottling with zero added sulphites. It has classic flavours of preserved lemon and a
textural mouth feel.
