Robert Stein Winery
Robert Stein Winery
Established in 1976 by Robert “Bob” Stein, this premier winery is one of the few multigenerational, family-owned wine businesses in New South Wales. Nestled in the breathtaking Mudgee region, Robert Stein Winery benefits from a climate perfectly suited to its hero variety, complemented by a profound historical legacy. With riesling roots dating back to Johann Stein’s arrival to Australia in 1838, the winery continues its legacy with award-winning wines that dazzle and delight.
The winery’s cellar door boasts a prized collection of vintage motorcycles, owned and cherished by late Bob Stein himself. Overlooking the twenty hectares of stunning vineyard and functional farmland, the cellar door is the perfect place to taste and experience a slice of Australian wine history. Although riesling is where the journey began almost two centuries ago, Robert Stein Winery’s current variety demonstrates the breadth of its mastery. Offering chardonnay, gewurztraminer, saignée, rosé, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, barbera and Montepulciano, there really is something for every wine drinker.
In 2009, the grandson of Bob, Jacob Stein, returned from the world’s most prestigious wine regions – including Germany’s Rheinhessen and Rheingau – to lead winemaking at Robert Stein Winery. Under Jacob’s tenure of winemaking and business leadership, the winery has achieved unparalleled recognition in New South Wales, including three of the last five Best Reisling Trophy wins at the Sydney Royal Wine Show. The Robert Stein Riesling range have won over 100 gold medals and eighty trophies over the last ten years alone, including several accolades at the international Riesling Challenge, and winner of the Trophy for Best Riesling at the 2024 NSW Wine Awards.
The winery hosts special events throughout the year, including the annual Footcrush & Farm to Table lunches. An exclusive wine club is offered, with members receiving early access to new releases and priority event bookings. Visitors can enjoy curated wine flights based on mood and preference, private tastings and a family-friendly setting to relax in. Although the wines can be delivered straight to your door anywhere in Australia, experiencing the hallowed grounds of the winery is a must for any wine enthusiast.

⇐ Reserve Riesling
Hand-picked from the 1976 block on red ironstone and quartz, wild yeast fermented and aged on lees for six months. A benchmark Australian riesling, with multiple national trophies and great aging potential. Exclusively for wine club members.

⇐ Half Dry Riesling
From the cool climate of Millthorpe, this wine retains a touch of sweetness to balance its natural acidity. Fermentation is stopped early, preserving vibrant citrus and gentle spice. It’s a perfect match for dishes like salt and pepper calamari or spicy chilli crab. Fresh, lively and food friendly.

⇐ Dry Riesling
From the lower rows of the 1976 block, this dry, classic style shows lime juice, oyster shell and the juicy lift of natural acidity. It speaks clearly of the vineyard site. A multiple Sydney Royal Trophy winner for Best Riesling in Australia.

⇐ The Kinnear Chardonnay
Made in small batches from select blocks on the Mudgee vineyard, where quartz and clay soils meet cool nights. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and wild fermented in French oak, with extended lees contact for texture and depth. Stone fruit, flint and subtle oak define this refined, powerful expression of chardonnay.
