HUNGERFORD HILL
HUNGERFORD HILL
Nestled in the heart of the historic Hunter Valley, Hungerford Hill masterfully showcases the strengths of New South Wales viticulture. Established in 1967 by the Hungerford family, Hungerford Hill was one of the first wineries in the Hunter Valley to plant significant vines, pioneering the iconic, distinctive taste of the region for decades to come. With new ownership in 2016, Hungerford Hill is again family owned. Working with vines aged upwards of fifty years, the winemaking team are producing flavour driven, textural and expressive wines integral to the flavour profile of the region.
Although there has been a renewed focus and concentration on Hunter Valley heritage, Hungerford Hill also works with some of the best producers in the Hilltops and Tumbarumba regions. The estate doesn’t limit itself to a varietal narrative – instead, the team create wines that lead by quality and storytelling, offering an experience that few other wineries can provide.
The depth of experience within the team is highlighted by the awards collected by Hungerford Hill’s wines. The 2022 Epic Shiraz is a standout, receiving 96 points by the Halliday Wine Companion and The Real Review. The 2022 Malbec, another fan favourite, picked up three silver medals at the Small Winemakers Show, the NSW Wine Awards and the Royal QLD Wine Show. Other awarded varieties include the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc and the 2022 Tempranillo Graciano, both collecting golds, silvers and bronzes in events across Australia.
Although the team produce twenty premier varieties from fifty hectares of high-quality vines, Hungerford Hill is also known for the breadth of activities available for all guests at its destination estate. Tasting experiences and curated lunch events are available at the cellar door. The modes of tasting are designed with guests in mind, seeking out wines that are especially suited to their tastes for an unforgettably curated experience.

⇐ Cardinal
Vibrant deep red in colour with a fine bead. The aroma abounds with savoury leather, spice and plum, while the palate is soft, luscious and full of red berry fruit.

⇐ Dalliance
Produced from pinot noir and chardonnay grown in the cold climate of Tumbarumba, this sparkling wine was made in the Methode Traditionelle. The purity of the fruit and flavours derived from the bottle fermentation and extended lees maturation combine to produce a rich, vibrant sparkling wine with creamy bead.

⇐ Epic
Marked as the pinnacle of winemaking at Hungerford Hill, the 2022 vintage produced shiraz with pure fragrance, seamless tannins and elegant mineral structure. 2022 was the second in a trio of sensational vintages – a full-bodied Hunter Shiraz that will age well. One for the ages and a delight for collectors.

⇐ Malbec
With a deep, intense colour of vibrant ruby and purple hues, this Malbec’s bouquet offers aromas of blackberry, plum and cherry with hints of floral notes, subtle peppery spices and a touch of vanilla from oak aging. Flavours of prominence are dark fruits, along with oak-driven flavours, such as cedar.
