Heslop Wines
Perched in the heart of Mudgee, Heslop Wines is a family-owned and -operated winery producing a diverse and elegant range of wines. With four meticulously cultivated hectares under vine, the Heslop family boasts an impressive collection of thirteen unique wines produced yearly. The estate’s dedication to excellence in both winemaking and hospitality has been widely recognised, earning it numerous prestigious accolades, including the Best Museum Red Trophy in 2021 for its 2011 Touriga Nacional, and Cellar Door of the Year in both 2023 and 2024.
Established in 1984 by Bob and Julie Heslop, the vineyard initially supplied grapes to other wineries. However, in 2011, Bob produced the first vintage onsite, launching the incredible legacy to come for Heslop Wines. Today, the winery is a reputable champion of alternative varieties, including Zinfandel, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cão and White Frontignac, alongside a foundation of traditional styles such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and fortified wines.
Heslop produces under two primary labels: Heslop Wines and Heslop’s Mr. Rascal – both wholly embodying the winemaking philosophy of the estate. Heslop Wines showcases the winery’s mastery of classic expressions, while Heslop’s Mr. Rascal explores more adventurous territory with ingenuity, creativity and flair. The Whole Bunch Shiraz, made using carbonic maceration, and Bush Botanicals, a native botanical-infused white vermouth, are just a few of the inventive wines under the Heslop’s Mr. Rascal label.
A visit to Heslop Wines offers a truly boutique, personalised experience. All tastings are led by members of the Heslop family, providing guests with insight into the hands that grow and craft their wine. As the winery builds its new strawbale cellar door, tastings take place in the family’s home and garden, offering picturesque vineyard views in a warm, welcoming setting. With an ever-evolving range available online and a focus on personal connection, Heslop Wines offers an experience as memorable as the wines themselves.
Tasting Notes

⇐ Heslop Wines 2023 Chardonnay
Aromas of citrus, peach, melon and brioche. The oak aromas are subtle, allowing the ripe fruit flavours to shine. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft creamy texture, balanced by a clean refreshing finish. Drink now or cellar.

⇐ Heslop Wines 2022 Touriga Nacional
Aromas of plum, cherry, liquorice and spice. The forty-one-year-old vines give this wine a seamless balance between fruit concentration, medium body and silky tannins. Very drinkable now or cellar for five to ten years for a more mellow experience.

⇐ Heslop’s Mr. Rascal 2022 Zinfandel
Aromas of prune, raisin, spice and dark chocolate. The palate is medium- to full-bodied. A typically generous alcohol content is balanced by a plush fruit sweetness and gentle tannins.

⇐ Heslop’s Mr. Rascal 2024 Bush Botanicals
Vermouth or fortified white wine infused with native Australian herbs. Medium sweetness with aromas of lemon, thyme and the Australian bush. Serve chilled, drink as an aperitif or with cheese after a meal. Alternatively, mix with tonic or other cocktails.
