Centennial Vineyards
Centennial Vineyards
Set high above Bowral, Centennial Vineyards is known for its picturesque landscape, award-winning sparkling wines, and a relaxed yet elevated wine experience.
Centennial Vineyards was established almost thirty years ago by John Piven-Large. Since this time, the winery has steadily built its reputation on producing exceptional wines. The Bowral estate in the Southern Highlands is best known for crafting its wines using the traditional method, with varieties that reflect the region’s cool climate and elevated growing conditions.
The grapes used in wine production are from two distinct New South Wales wine regions: the Southern Highlands and Orange. The sustainably farmed Bridge Creek vineyard in Orange is located at 850m altitude. Bridge Creek boasts exposure to the warm afternoon sun, ripening both classic and alternative varietals, from Mencía, Rondinella, Corvina, Pinot Noir (Abel clone) and Shiraz to Chardonnay.
Centennial Vineyards produces of up to twenty wine varieties per year; including a delicate Pinot Blanc, balanced Shiraz and an exclusive Dolce Classico. The varieties are made from both corvina and rondinella Italian grape types and Centennial Vineyards is one of only two growers in the country.
Guests can enjoy guided wine tastings inside the welcoming Cellar Door, as the Barrel Room invites you to learn about the journey of each wine. The winery offers you the space to settle in on the terrace, or relax under the birch trees with wine paddles, small bites, or the popular Paddle & Plate experience.
The vineyard also features beautifully maintained gardens, sweeping views of the region, and an on-site restaurant. The Centennial Restaurant offers fresh, seasonal dining, that is made to harmonise with the estate-grown wines perfectly.
Centennial Vineyards has established itself as a destination for locals and visitors alike, from long lunches, wine tastings, celebrations, weddings, or a weekend escape to the stunning Southern Highlands. With numerous events held on-site in the Barrel Room or on the expansive green lawns, each experience is one for the senses, exploring the vines through flavour.
This year, Centennial Vineyards has been recognised as one of the Top Wineries in Australia by The Real Review as well as numerous ratings of more ninety plus points in the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion. These accolades reflect the dedication, craftsmanship and distinctive flavour of each wine produced by the vineyard.
Tasting Notes
⇐ 2024 Reserve Pinot Noir
The palate is light-bodied, soft and silky, with intense cherry, currant, raspberry and beetroot flavours, leading into a long and satisfying finish. Gentle tannins harmonise further over the next year. Minimal filtration may result in a small deposit with time. This wine pairs perfectly with bold, full flavoured dishes such as veal, chicken and duck
⇐ NV Classic Brut
Made using the traditional method of bottle fermentation and ageing on yeast lees for twenty-one months. The bright and elegant nose reveals fresh red apple, nectarine, almond custard, and subtle creamy notes. The cooler vintage has created a detailed and flavoursome style with ripe acidity, red apple, pear and nectarine palate flavours finishing clean and dry. Superb as an aperitif, yet just as enjoyable when paired throughout a meal.
⇐ 2024 Reserve Albariño
On the nose there are malty aromas, mixed with citrusy grapefruit and subtle floral notes. The energetic and very lively palate has crisp acidity running alongside mandarin, tangerine and grapefruit flavours. The lees ageing with thirty-three per cent fermentation on full lees in old French Oak, added both aromatic, volume and textural complexity, resulting in an excellent summer wine.
⇐ 2024 Reserve Mencía
Now in its second release, the Mencia offers fragrant, Pinot Noir-like charm with a savoury twist. The nose is lifted and complex, showing fresh herbs, blood plum, roasted meats, liquorice and olive. The palate is light to mediumbodied with excellent natural acidity and a firm tannin finish making it an exceptional, balanced wine.
